Prof. Dr. W.A.L. Stokhof is the Secretary General of the International Convention of Asia Scholars. He is also the Chair of `Cultural and Societal Relations between Indonesia and the Netherlands', Faculty of Arts, Leiden University.
After having completed his Undergraduate, PhD and Postgraduate studies in Linguistics, he went on to teach in a number of universities within that field. He was also the Founding Director of the International Institute for the Study of Islam in the Modern World and the Director of the International Institute for Asian Studies. Prof. Dr. Stokhof was appointed Chairman of the Research School of Asian, African and Amerindian Studies (CNWS) and a member of the Advisory Committee for co-operation with Indonesia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands.
Prof. Dr. Stokhof was born in 1941, is married, and enjoys semantics, descriptive linguistics, international relations, Asia and ASEM studies and antique Asian ceramics. He is ASEF's Governor for the Netherlands
