Professor Dr. Gerd Langguth is teaching Political Science at the Bonn University. His main areas are: political structures and decision making processes, political parties, European integration, terrorism.
Langguth was born on May 18, 1946 in Wertheim am Main (Baden-Württemberg), where he attended the „Dietrich-Bonhoeffer“ classical secondary school. After studying Political Science, Constitutional Law and History at the Rhenanian Friedrich-Wilhelm-University of Bonn he obtained his Ph.D. with a thesis on „The Development of the Protest Movement in the Federal Republic of Germany 1968-1975“. In 1975 he became Head of an Educational Institute in Stuttgart, at the same time teaching Sociology at the College for Public Administration in Stuttgart. Further stations are:
- Member of the German Federal Parliament Deutscher Bundestag (1976-1980);
- Director of the Federal Center for Civic Education in Bonn (1981-1985);
- Special Envoy of the Land Berlin at the Federal Government and Undersecretary of State (1986-1987);
- Head of the Representation of the Commission of the European Community at the Federal Level in Bonn (1988-1993);
- Executive Chairman of the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation in Sankt Augustin (near Bonn) (1993-1997).
