Dr. Horst Guenter Krenzler

Dr Horst G. Krenzler is currently special advisor to the European Commission. From 1986 till 1996, he assumed the role of Directorate-General for External Relations for the Commission of the European Communities in Brussels. There, he played a significant role as a member of the European Commission's team negotiating the enlargement of the Common Market.

In 1975, he was Head of the Division “Far East” and later the “United States/Canada” division. Later, Dr Krenzler was the Director for “Negotiation and Management of Textile Agreements, and Commercial questions in respect of Industry and Energy”. He served for five years with the EC as Deputy Secretary-General and was later Director-General of External Relations.

Dr Krenzler has written numerous articles on EU policy, especially in relation to the External Relations of the European Union. He had been a student of German literature, political science and law, before he pursued his PhD. in International Law at the University of Heidelberg.

Prof Dr Krenzler is currently teaching International Economic and European Law at the University of Munich and is advising the law firm "Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer". He is ASEF Governor for the European Commission.
