Amb. Takayuki Kimura

Ambassador Prof Takayuki Kimura presently serves as Special Assistant to the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Director-General of the EU Institute in Japan.

Born in the Miyagi Prefecture and graduating from Tokyo University in 1962, Ambassador Prof Kimura entered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) where he became 1st Secretary at the Embassy of Japan in Thailand.

Throughout his career in the ministry, Ambassador Kimura took on positions such as Director, Multilateral Cooperation Division, Economic Cooperation Bureau, Minister-Counsellor, Embassy of Japan in Malaysia and Director-General, Cultural Affairs Department, MOFA.

He has previously served as Ambassador to Jordan, Ambassador in charge of Global Environment Negotiation and Ambassador, Japanese Mission to the European Union.

As an academic, Ambassador Kimura has been a Visiting Fellow, Royal Institute of International Affairs, UK and Visiting Professor, University of South Florida, USA, as well as Visiting Professor, International Christian University, Tokyo.

Ambassador Kimura is ASEF Governor for Japan.
